SPRING BREAK 2015 IN LONDON!

The spring 2015 Survey of Graphic Design History course as well as the graphic design majors will travel to London for 10 days over spring break. The excursion will focus  on the history of graphic design in London with particular emphasis on the contribution and influence of graphic design work by British born artists. The trip will also bring into focus London’s rich visual tradition as one of the world’s most important cities for visual communication and London’s contribution to contemporary graphic design. 
 
The program flyer and details of the itinerary are attached. London field trips include: Baseline magazine, Why Not Associates, Pentagram, Bibliothèque, Design Museum, Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising, Tate Britain and Tate Modern, Saatchi Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, Magma books, and Taschen Books.
 
The cost of the program is $2,570 which includes airfare, housing, tube pass, breakfast, activities.Museum entries, and health Insurance.
 
The program dates are April 2 to April 11, 2015.

The withdrawal schedule is as follows:

· Dec 16, $500 deposit is non-refundable
· January 24, Entire program fee is non-refundable

Whole Foods Market Baton Rouge Full Time Graphic Artist/Signmaker Position Available

Our Graphic Artists create signage in-store ranging from large, hanging banners to small printed price signs to hand illustrated chalks. Much of the work of this position is the actual hand-production of our signs, including printing, laminating, trimming, and distributing signs to the departments throughout the store. There are opportunities for designing creative banners and posters within the guidelines of our brand standards and seasonal marketing programs. The Graphic Artist will typically work 40 hours per week and, since it’s a retail-based position, is expected to work at least one day of the weekend. 

 

This is a very fast-paced environment, great for a quick learner with great people skills. This position is charged with quick turn times, lots of requests from different directions, and requires excellent organization and time management skills as well.

Typography: Form and Meaning is an advanced examination into the theory and practice of denotative and connotative typography. Students will practice typographic variables (form, weight, scale, space and rhythm) and learn how to control complex hierarchal systems as a means of conveying visual language and verbal meaning. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the function of design principles in creating typographic contrast, hierarchy, meaning and expression. Students will learn how to use a typographic system to create denotative and connotative narratives over a sequence of pages, supporting concept, audience and purpose.

NOLA Couture is seeking a Graphic Design Associate for the summer of 2013. Our brand is inspired by New Orleans and the Gulf Coast and focuses on whimsical prints and bright color pallets. This hands-on experience is a unique opportunity to learn the ins and outs of graphic design. Associates will be involved in the creative process from sample to production as well as help with the daily operations.

Overview:

– Market the NOLA Couture brand through the use of graphic design
– Design marketing materials and strategies
– Take and edit photos for website, social media, and marketing use
– Assist in design developments for new artwork layouts and textiles
– Update linesheets and media press kits
– Complete general administrative duties as needed

Qualifications:

– Relevant portfolio samples (any file type)

Neenah Unshow Competition

The UnShow competition celebrates all forms of expression on any uncoated paper (not just Neenah). Neenah covers your entry fee to make it FREE for you to enter one or multiple projects. The UnShow web site will be open for public voting, as designers across the world vote for the top 25 entries in each category. These entries will then be submitted to a selected jury of design judges. Two winners in each category will receive $500 in cash and have their image published in HOW Magazine.  In addition, one overall grand prize winner will be selected and receive $1,000 in cash, plus admission to the HOW Design Conference 2013, to be held at the Moscone West in San Francisco, CA, from June 22-26, 2013.
